So not only had I accomplished nothing, but lost a valuable tool besides I watched helplessly as it sailed away, growing smaller and smaller against the starry sky. Then finally, just as I almost succeeded, the wrench popped out from under my feet and went flying off into space. But I was getting nowhere, and had already missed lunch. I didn't realize this at first and spent several hours trying to grip the wrench with my feet while using both hands to screw on the nut at the other end. The constructors had foolishly designed the rocket in such a way, that it took one person to hold the head of the bolt in place with a wrench, and another to tighten the nut. I put on my spacesuit, went outside and tried to fix the mechanism, but found I couldn't possibly attach the spare rudder - which I'd had the foresight to bring along - without the help of another man. It was on a Monday, April second - I was cruising in the vicinity of Betelgeuse - when a meteor no larger than a lima bean pierced the hull, shattered the drive regulator and part of the rudder, as a result of which the rocket lost all maneuverability. I smirked and wanted to say, Nice try kid. "Eleventh." He took the time to scan what he could see of me above the table and added hopefully, "I'll be eighteen in a few months." He pushed his sleeves up and looked up at me. He had an ambiguous look to him, so he could be fourteen just as easily as eighteen. He was definitely high school, but I couldn't put a finger on an exact age. This kid looked like he fell somewhere in the middle. Kids who genuinely wanted to understand a subject, and kids whose parents decided for them that they needed outside help. I had a lot of different people come to me for help, but generally they fell into two categories. He took out his science textbook and a notebook, scrounging around the bottom of his bag for a pen. He nodded and sat down across from me at the table I was occupying. I brushed my long wavy hair back from my face with one hand and straightened up from the slouch I was in. I snapped to attention and realized he was my four o'clock appointment and staring at me expectantly. "The lady at the counter said you were Alex," a guy half-said, half-asked. If they spoke first, however, I would have to respond, no matter who they were. I avoided looking at him until he spoke to me, just in case it was someone I'd rather avoid. I was absently staring at a shelf crammed with books, but I still noticed when someone slowly approached in my peripheral vision. And that is saying something because I really love authors that write good characters. Seriously, I haven’t read about that well written characters in quite a while. She writes awesome characters, that are neither too perfect nor too complicated to be true. Armentrout – finally! Why it had taken me so long to finally read something she wrote? No idea, because in a matter of minutes (it was literally minutes during the read that is the Covenant series prequel Daimon!) I learned to love that woman. I have recently (about 4 months ago I guess) started to read Jennifer L. During Phase 1, existing and new geologic, groundwater, surface-water, and hydrochemical data will be compiled and evaluated to characterize the flow system. The objectives will be met by conducting the study in two phases. The proposed work will provide a better understanding of the nation’s water-resources, assist the stakeholders in the Rio San Jose Basin in evaluating various water-management options, and support the USGS mission of disseminating water-resources information to the public. This project will provide the Pueblos of Acoma and Laguna with quantified estimates of water availability and use in the Rio San Jose Basin and the ability to simulate the hydrologic effects of water-rights settlement options. Whoever said life begins at forty was clearly a master of the underappreciated and oft maligned understatement.īewitched is the second book of the series Betwixt and Between series, which follows a middle-aged woman who recently found out she has magic when her grandmother died and left her a house possessed by the spirit of her dead father. No one told her life after forty would mean having to learn new lifeskills-such as how to dodge supernatural assassins while casting from a moving vehicle-or that the sexiest man alive would be living in her basement. And there are other witches who will stop at nothing to steal her immense power, which would basically involve her unfortunate and untimely death. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
